YPSILANTI, Mich. ( – Head coach of the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team Josh Brewer continues to expand its squad for the 2024-25 season and takes on new players Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Colombia/ Colegio Karl C. Parrish) today, June 21st.

A former member of the Colombian junior national team, she is ranked eighth in the national women's junior rankings, 13th in the national women's amateur rankings and 888th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). Vega's notable accomplishments include winning the Copa Camilo Villegas Junior Championship in November 2023 and representing Colombia at the Copa Sur national championship in Mexico and the South American Amateur Open in Colombia. She has a scoring average of 77.5 and has achieved top finishes in several prestigious tournaments, such as fifth place at the Nico Open AJGA and the Abierto Ciudad de Manizales.

“Mariana comes to us from the rich women's golf country of Columbia,” Brewer said. “She has represented her club and her country in many events during her young career. I want to thank her and her family for believing in what we are building at Eastern. I must also thank her national coach, Paola, for entrusting us with one of her elite talents. We expect Mariana to be an important part of our foundation as we become a fixture in the postseason.”

She joins the second year of study Savannah DeBock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus – Lycée/Georgia) and Seniors Amaya Melendez (Ann Arbor, Michigan/Pioneer)who had already previously announced their commitment to the WWU.
