Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha today, Friday, June 21, said that he will ask CM Nitish Kumar for a CBI probe into the alleged links of the arrested main accused in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 exam ‘paper leak’ case with officials linked to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, reports PTI.

According to PTIIn response, Yadav said the state government was free to order a high-level inquiry into Sinha's allegations, but stressed that the BJP's links with the other two accused must also be investigated.

“Recommending an investigation by an independent agency like the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) is the CM's prerogative. We will meet him and request him to do the needful in the matter pertaining to the suspected links of the arrested accused in the NEET paper leak case with officials associated with Tejashwi Yadav,” Sinha said PTI.

On Thursday, Sinha claimed that officials linked to Yadav were in constant touch with the prime suspect, Sikander Prasad Yadvendu, in connection with the NEET paper leak and demanded a “high-level investigation” into the matter, he reported. PTI.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case on July 8.

Asked why he felt it necessary to demand a high-level inquiry as the BJP is the party in power in Bihar and the inquiry can proceed on the recommendation of the state government, Sinha said, “I reiterate that this is the CM's prerogative. We will inform him (the CM) and demand a high-level inquiry, including the CBI.”

The deputy prime minister said he had provided evidence to the media of the “involvement” of officials close to Yadav in the dispute, according to PTI.

“I hope that the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police, which is investigating the alleged NEET paper leak case, will look into this aspect,” he said.

Responding to Sinha's allegations, Yadav said that the investigating agencies were free to demand a high-level inquiry as they were under the BJP government at the state and central levels.

The former deputy prime minister said: “They should call and question my officials about whom they are talking. Why are they hesitating to order an investigation into the matter?”

He told reporters that he would ask the chief minister to contact his personal assistant or personal secretary and initiate an inquiry into the matter. If they find anything suspicious, they should arrest him, Yadav told reporters, reported PTI.

“It is a fact that the officer the deputy chief minister is talking about was brought into the state urban development department by the BJP leaders in 2021. They should know whether he is a beneficiary or not,” Yadav alleged.

“They (BJP leaders) do not know anything as the EOU does not report to them,” he said.

Yadav accused Sinha of diverting the public from the main issue and asked why the BJP leader was ignoring other people involved in the case like Amit Anand and Nitish Kumar, who were taken into custody by the EOU, reports PTI.

“What is the connection of the two leaders with them (BJP) needs to be investigated. It is a known fact that every time the BJP comes to power, exam papers of important exams are leaked,” he said.
