S'Canelo' Alvarez has repeatedly said that he would only fight David Benavidez if he was offered over $200 million for the fight. The Mexican champion is at a point where he no longer has to look for fights, all of these opponents come to him. Every single fighter that steps into the ring with Canelo knows that their life will change forever because they will automatically become a millionaire. The fight against David Benavidez is arguably the most interesting fight Alvarez can have, he is the perfect rival who can actually challenge his position as the best super middleweight in the world. But Alvarez doesn't have to risk that unless he gets Benavidez as a mandatory opponent.

WBC needs Canelo

Currently, there are several requests that the unified super middleweight must fulfill in terms of mandatory fights. The IBF wants William Scull Canelo's next opponent in the fight for the belt. Edgar Berlanga is the fighter the WBA wants for Alvarez. But the WBC just came up with their mandatory rival and guess who it is. David Benavidez will apparently fight Canelo no matter what. If the WBC manages to force Alvarez to fight, it wouldn't happen until 2025 because the WBA may have already filled the September slot that Canelo always uses to fight.

According to Ahmed Boxing, the WBA has scheduled this mandatory fight between Canelo and Jorge Berlanga for the month of September. After that, the WBC is expected to make a similar demand to Canelo to fight David Benavidez. But the window of opportunity could close if the Mexican boxer loses his belt to Berlanga. If that happens, one of the most important fights in the super middleweight division could be lost and possibly not happen at all. We're keeping our fingers crossed that Canelo beats Jorge Berlanga when the fight takes place in September. That could be the only way to get him to fight Benavidez in 2025.
