You want drama? Well Euro 2024 serves it up in a wild and aggressive manner. Even the relentless boredom of English games has plunged one of Europe's greatest footballing nations into its own psychodrama, dreaming of having as much fun as Germany.

The hosts are one of two teams, along with Spain, that have already qualified for the round of 16. England and Switzerland will most likely join them from a group stage where only eight of the 24 teams are eliminated. Could big names like Croatia and Belgium be in that small group? The coming days will be crucial to finding out. One can only safely predict that there will be much more of the last-minute drama that characterises this competition in its opening games.
