Penn State continues to look for a big-name player: Three-star athlete LaVar Arrington II has joined the Penn State football team, it was announced on Thursday, July 4. Arrington is, not surprisingly, the son of LaVar Arrington, Penn State's all-time best linebacker.

A native of Covina, California, Arrington is the 39th-best athlete in the nation and the 45th-best player in his home state, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Arrington's verbal commitment makes Penn State's class of 2025 the eighth-best in the nation, according to the same website. Arrington is 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds. Like his father, Arrington's primary talent is athleticism, having played wide receiver, tight end and linebacker at Charter Oak.

And just like his father, his athleticism helped him excel on the field, although his defensive stats, which include 65 tackles and 12 sacks, according to MaxPreps, are more impressive overall than his work on offense. Three-star prospect Alex Tatsch is the only other linebacker so far in Penn State's class of 2025, a group that now includes 21 players.
