Michael Best & Friedrich has merged with Los Angeles-based venture capital law firm O&A., PC, gaining new reach in the California market.

Michael Best, headquartered in Milwaukee, closed the O&A deal on July 1, the company said Tuesday.
According to its website, O&A employs eight lawyers who focus on advising startups.

“Establishing an office in California was critical for us to better serve our clients, particularly in the employment, technology, intellectual property and litigation, and venture capital areas,” said David Krutz, managing partner of Michael Best, in a statement. “We can provide them with continuity of service at the prices and value they expect.”

Following the merger, Michael Best will employ more than 300 lawyers in 18 offices, including in Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina and Texas. O&A founder Dan Offner will become managing partner of the firm's Los Angeles office.

The merger also involves Michael Best purchasing a proprietary online software service from O&A designed to help entrepreneurs start their own businesses.

According to data from American Lawyer, Michael Best reported gross revenue of more than $197.2 million last year and distributed $748,000 in profit per equity partner.
