Mountain communities-The National Weather Service, Hanford Office is warning area residents to prepare for excessive heat. The heat is expected to continue until 10:00 a.m. Saturday. A fire warning is also being issued, effective from 11:00 a.m. Saturday through 9:00 p.m. Sunday.

With temperatures well above normal even in the Sierra Nevada, outdoor activities are more likely to cause heat-related illness than those at higher elevations. This rare, prolonged extreme heat with little or no overnight relief affects everyone, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.

A fire warning is in effect from 11am Saturday to 9pm Sunday due to the likelihood of lightning and low fuel moisture, which favor fires. There is a 25% chance of thunderstorms – even dry
Lightning – Late Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon. There is a less than 10% chance of wet rain with these storms. Thunderstorm potential will resume Sunday afternoon and end Sunday evening. Any fires will likely spread quickly due to dry fuels. Outdoor fires are discouraged.
