On Wednesday evening, the league’s most prominent new signing returns to the court.

Bronny James, the Lakers' fresh second-round pick (and son of LeBron James), is set to make his second professional appearance, this time facing the Heat in the scorching heat of San Francisco.

This year's inaugural edition of the NBA Summer League has been a riveting experience so far. Most of the Summer League talent is still in Sin City, but the California Classic was a solid showcase of skills, with a number of players – including Miami first-round pick Kel'el Ware – earning praise for their performances.

James is on the other end of the spectrum. His performance in his first game as a pro was far from ideal. He scored four points on 2 of 9 shooting and added two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 21 minutes of play.

Things got strange in what appeared to be his second game: Los Angeles waited until shortly before kickoff before ruling James out because of knee pain.

All in all, James' first two days as a professional were challenging.

Rome wasn't built in a day, though. Shaky performances are common under the blazing West Coast sun, and there's always another game. In this case, it's a matchup with Ware and the Heat.
