A 64-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, June 10, on suspicion of shooting his neighbor in downtown Long Beach, authorities said.

At around 12:30 p.m., the victim was shot multiple times in the 700 block of East 1st Street, Long Beach police said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity was not established on Wednesday.

John Higginbotham, 64, was a neighbor of the victim and knew him, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of murder, but the motive is still under investigation.
