San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle believes wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will stay with the team this season despite his current contract dispute and transfer rumors.

“I'm not worried about it,” Kittle told NFL Network's Rich Eisen in the 25th minute. “Aiyuk is a phenomenal football player who is a big part of our offense and he's one of the most complete receivers I've ever played with, so I expect him to be on our team when the season starts.”

Eisen first asked Kittle what he would say to fans who ask if Aiyuk will be in San Francisco this year, and that's how he got the answer.

Kittle noted that other 49ers stars completed their big deals later in the offseason. Kittle's $75 million deal was reported on August 13, 2020. Deebo Samuel's three-year contract worth up to $73.5 million was reported on July 31, 2022. And Nick Bosa and the 49ers agreed to a five-year, $170 million extension on September 6, 2023.

There are still two weeks until the 49ers start training on July 23, so there is still plenty of time to get something done with regard to these deals.

Kittle also stressed that he had no special insight into the Aiyuk matter, even saying that he goes out of his way to avoid talking to players during contract negotiations so he doesn't have to give others answers about these situations.

Aiyuk had 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns last year en route to second-team All-Pro honors. Thanks to his efforts, the 49ers won the NFC title. He's entering the final season of a rookie contract that will pay him $14.1 million in 2024, and he's honestly earned a lucrative long-term deal.

The 26-year-old has not managed to do so so far and it does not look like either side is making much progress.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that recent talks have not brought them any closer to a contract, but a trade request is not on the table either.

“Aiyuk and the 49ers have been in talks recently,” Garafolo said on July 2. “As far as I know, they're no closer to a deal, but they're no closer to a trade request either. That was never something he explored in this case.”

Albert Breer from Sports illustrated also spoke to Eisen about the matter (21st minute) and said that he believes the 49ers not only see Aiyuk as the team's No. 1 wide receiver, but that something will be done about it.

On the other hand, Aiyuk seems to be excited about the Commanders, a team led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, a close friend of his and former teammate at Arizona State. This picture caused a stir.

Aiyuk also appeared on The Pivot Podcast with Daniels. And during that podcast, Aiyuk named the Commanders as a team he could envision playing for in 2024 alongside the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“If I had to guess, probably a Niner uniform,” Aiyuk said during an appearance on The Pivot Podcast (45:45) on where he sees himself in 2024. “Probably a Niner uniform. I mean, if not a Niner uniform, then probably a Washington Commander uniform. If not a Washington Commander uniform, then probably a Steelers uniform.”

Aiyuk is currently still in San Francisco, but his status is definitely something to keep an eye on in the offseason.
