Dustin Poirier has once again sharply opposed Michael Chandler. The rivalry between the two dates back to 2022 when they faced off at UFC 281. Poirier successfully defeated Chandler with a rear naked choke in the third round of their fight. However, the fight led “The Diamond” to label “Iron” a “dirty fighter.” Needless to say, the feud went on for quite a while. And now, it seems like the hatchet isn't buried at all.

Poirier criticized Chandler to X and told him to back off. He even went a step further and reminded him of their fight at UFC 281. But why was he so upset about what Chandler said?

Not long ago, the former interim UFC lightweight champion wrote, “Shut up, Muscle Milk Microphone.” This was followed by another tweet that read:“I choked your ass and you haven't fought since.” However, “Iron” wanted nothing to do with the argument, but his answer made Poirier angry. Chandler’s words were“No thanks – retire, man… we're fine.”

Speaking to famous MMA reporter Ariel Helwani on his talk show “The MMA Hour,” Poirier revealed why he was upset about the tweet. And boy, did he rant! He said“I mean, come on, dude… 'No thanks' – back off, we're good. Who the hell are we? You just got here, buddy. You're not one of us. You're not us. I was here… Welcome to the UFC, dude. You got a win in the UFC.”

Poirier brings Chandler back to reality, claiming he is not one of the UFC fighters. “Iron” was actually a lightweight champion in Bellator MMA. He joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2020 and has made a name for himself in the organization. Poirier, on the other hand, entered the Octagon in early 2011 and quickly rose in popularity. But when Chandler lumped the two together, Poirier just didn't like it.

When Helwani asked if that was the reason for his anger, the former LW interim champion said:“You know, I've been cutting my teeth in the UFC since January 2011 or 2010. He just got here. Who are we? He's speaking for the lightweight division? Dude, Muscle Milk Mike needs to chill out.”

Chandler has not returned to the Octagon since his loss to Poirier. He also has a rivalry with Conor McGregor at TUF 31. The duo were scheduled to face each other at UFC 303, but an unfortunate injury forced “The Notorious” to pull out of the fight. Chandler was now desperate for a fight. But Poirier had something to say about that too.

“The Diamond” opens Chandler vs. McGregor

The return of “Mystic Mac” to fight “Iron” had raised great expectations among combat sports fans. The cancellation of the fight was undoubtedly an equally great disappointment. There was already initial speculation that Chandler could face McGregor at the Sphere on September 14th. Even “Mystic Mike” dropped a hint about it. While many others wanted Chandler to face someone else in the division, Poirier disagreed.

'The Diamond' suggested that Chandler should actually wait until the fight against McGregor comes about. If he fought someone else and lost, he could lose the chance to earn a big paycheck for fighting the Irishman. However, waiting is actually a double-edged sword. He said“The reward of beating Conor McGregor, both financially and for your career, is worth the wait. But if you never do it, you'll waste many years and you'll no longer be a young man.”

With Poirier's retirement still being discussed, the escalation of the dispute may suggest to fans that there will be a fight between Poirier and Chandler. Do you think that will happen? What do you think about Poirier's claims that Chandler is not part of the UFC? Let us know in the comments below.
